I should have known...

by Matthew Schut   Jan 12, 2012

On paper we are family,
in blood we are brothers,
born into this world,
from the same mother.

Always played sports together,
we fished until we couldn't see,
camped every chance we got,
and we climbed many trees.

Nothing could separate us,
we were the brother team,
always helping each other,
and encouraging our dreams.

But all of a sudden it all changed,
you brought home a girl from school,
told the family that she was the one,
even though I thought you were a fool.

You and her got married,
I was the best man,
as I stood there crying,
you would not understand.

I knew I was going to lose you as a brother,
all of our memories would soon wash away,
I watched as two strangers got married,
and I didn't know what to really say.

A year later, you convinced me to follow you,
you ended up moving across the country,
told me that we could be close again,
but it has been the total opposite for me.

You have kicked me when I was down,
treated me worse than a stranger,
stabbed me in the back many times,
and walked away when I was in danger.

So as I sit here in your cold, dark house,
I wonder, what happened to us being family?
It really hurts to have to say this,
but you aren't even a brother to me....

Awww... this poem is sad and so heartbreaking... I could feel the emotions you expressed. I am sorry about what you are going through, but I do hope things get better.

I love how you told this story, and expressed it... as the reader I couldn't help but feel the pain...

I have no words to say, I have gone totally speechless ..

But all of this just breaks my heart. You keep on smiling my friend, I know tomorrow will be better than yesterday, and more cheerful than today.
