Sophie

What a wonderful surprise after trying for months of the year
On those lovely romantic summer nights, all our love crystal clear
A seasonal baby indeed, her tender seed had been sewn
And watered well, with my hearts sunshine for her to grow

Now all my past was a distant dream well lived up to this time
Because in my belly was the future flesh, bones and soul of yours and mine
We decorated her room all nice for when she came
Even bought books for her to decipher one day in her little brain

The shopping bill increased as the little monster ate all my food
It didn't matter when I was hungry only when she was in the mood
And she definitely ate all her plate while she dined inside me
Because she grew like a balloon weighing me down delightfully

Strong as an ox she was kicking and wriggling around
She even kicked Daddy while he laid his head on my mound
It was a prolonged warm feeling for us all, a family soon to be
Nightly we toiled over names for her, Ella, Ruby or even Sophie

You're ready to come out now darling, this is your time, your birth date
But I'm at the door waiting, did you get lost, why are you late
Just like your father never on time, apple of his eye already
But it's been three days now and you're getting really heavy

Why is he looking at me like that, the Doctor's eyes are afraid
I felt you kick and your little heart beat only yesterday
Daddy what's going on do something please, this can't be right
I've just told her it's her birthday, not to worry, not to fright

I can see you now, your everything I imagined but you're not moving
What happened inside me, were you hungry, no room to breath in
Did I not sing to you enough, or place you gently down at night to sleep
I loved and cared for you for months so preciously so today we would meet

Now my life has turned upside down you're still here in my head
No we cant try for a new one yet, we have Sophie in her lovely soft bed
She'll be one soon, she might even start climbing the settee
Look at her hair grow so golden and her smile is so pretty

First day at school my beautiful little angel, do up your laces
Don't be letting those boys catch you in those silly kiss chases
I don't know why your father isn't bothered, don't worry about him
Here's your packed lunch and your dainty plimsolls for gym

Double figures around the corner my glorious pretty flower, big school soon
Daddy's no longer here now, he had to go but he still loves you
Wow haven't you grown so wonderfully, you look dashing in your dress
Be careful at the Ball tonight, don't let those hungry boys mess

I'm really proud of you getting that job after all your hard work
Now Mr hubby you'll have to start ironing your own crinkled shirts
You two are amazing, pregnant already, what great news
I can't wait to take my grand children to school, the theatre and the zoo

I'm getting old now my dear, its time for me to move on to another place
What a happy life you've made for yourself in all of your elegance and your grace
I'm very tired now, I'm proud of you, this will be my last yawn
Your life would have been a reality my poppet if you hadn't been still born
