Our Incandescent Flame (a little long)

by Owner of an Untamed Heart   Jul 20, 2012

While on my journey to obliterate
My inferior yet indefectible past
I came across an enchanted palace
As I walked through the abandoned rooms
My jeans began to chafe against my sweaty skin
Then, unanticipatedly, and without warning
My nose came across the scent of jasmine
I smiled at the familiarity of the aroma
For he used to smell of it
After his mother had bid him goodbye
Following the scent, I walked into a room
In the center was a distinguished candle
I gazed upon the golden flame
Utterly mesmerized by its dim light
I watched the fire dance in the air
My eyes twinkling with the fluorescent glimmer
The incense of jasmine getting stronger
I hovered my hand over it
The heat intensified the rest of my body
Then, suddenly, I felt myself trapped
My orchid dress twirled with my movement
Wait, my dress ?
I lifted up my new gown
Exposing the purple crystal slippers
I then looked yonder at the sound of ballroom music
Where am I ? Where is the candle ?
Walking hesitantly, the music filled my ears
As I came into a high lit room
Where people dressed extravagantly were dancing
I searched the room for an escape
When my eyes locked on him
He was wearing a black tailcoat
And when he turned around to examine me
My heart fluttered when he smiled
He moved aside, and behind him was the candle
It burned brighter now in the center
I walked towards him, slowly
My raven hair now in a curly ponytail
And white gloves enclosing my arms
When I reached him, our lips were magnets
He held me the way he used to
His kiss gentle yet yearning for something
Infatuated with his touch, I closed my eyes
Letting his embrace inspire me
Opening my eyes again, I was alone
Then again, I was with the centered candle
I caught my breath at its radiance
And suddenly, I knew what I had to do
As I was running, so were my thoughts
I was in another world where we were together
We loved each other no matter what happened
And the candle ?
It was our metaphorical love, no doubt
From my journey, I had an epiphany
Our love hadn't yet burnt out
We still had time; we both still felt
Never looking back on the palace
I reached his home, where he was outside
Waiting for my expected return
At first, we just gazed at each other
The same way in the charmed ballroom
And just like in that fascinating room
I walked slowly to him
And he held me the way he used to
His kiss gentle yet yearning for something
