Tables Turn

by Owner of an Untamed Heart   Oct 29, 2020

I must apologize for the intrusion
I know my love can cause a little confusion
But my heart only pumps when it sees what it wants
And I swear time stopped when our eyes locked

I promised you this wouldn't hurt
You promised that you'd make it work
But, hurt, it has done and the song has been sung, and love wasn't enough

And now the world is dark
And our views on life are gray
And the rain doesn't stop our tears from rolling away

There must be some kind of mistake
It's just too much for damaged people to take
Sometimes my anxiety doesn't want to let me be
And you've got an energy that will get the best of me

We promised that this wouldn't hurt
We promised that we'd make it work
But we're both stressed by our brokenness that love couldn't conquer the rest

The dusk never turns to dawn
And our hope for love has gone
And there's nothing left but to feel this pain

I promised that this wouldn't hurt
You promised that you'd make it work
We promised the world wouldn't burn
That's how quick the tables turn
