Dark Roast

Sub zero temperatures
linger on the breeze that
bites at my face
as I break off icicles
from my eyes-

and use them to stir my coffee.

Aegis, yet another fantastic and thought provoking piece. Your writes may be short but they are far from simple because it's very elegant and delicate.

The title drew me in as well as the fact you're on my favourites anyway I wondered why you'd use this as a title as my first thought was coffee and I admit to looking t up and seeing if there was another meaning or anything but couldn't find anything. I like how as you read the poem it links in nicely.

This already makes me feel very cold and looking out my window it looks very bitter out there too here in the UK.

To me this says this cold/dark aura has been troubling you for as long as you remember or care to anyway. I like the imagery of cold temperatures biting at your face, marking their territory so to speak.

    as I break off icicles

I feel your eyes are as cold as ice not because you want them to be but because you have seen things that make living seem like hell, you have felt pain? I don't know maybe I am completely off the scent lol.

and use them to stir my coffee.

Wow, using icicle tears to stir your coffee maybe so nobody knows they were there before because the heat would melt the ice sp there would be no recollection of them.
    This is extremely powerful.

Honestly you were pretty on point. For me the finishing line was a link to the title. Compared to light or medium roast coffee, dark roast has the lowest caffiene content. So i found it somewhat ironic to dilute it more with ice. But i like the way it came across to you as well:) Thanks for your lovely support -Aegis
