Breathing

I was never able to breathe
when I was with you.
Small quick gasps,
never exhaling,
always waiting for
that other shoe
to fall...
You had the greatest
ability
to suck the air
from every room
just from your presence.
In essence,
sucked the life
right out of me...
I no longer
have you in my life,
suffocating me
with your ways.
I can finally
breathe...

    I'm glad you were able to leave such a toxic relationship and have found happiness.

    Just a small thing I hope you don't mind me pointing out- the first and last lines, "breath" should be changed to "breathe".

    Brenda - this is so well written. I can relate as sadly a lot of people can, to a relationship that literally sucks the air out of every day, suffocating all the joyous things in life.

    Breda this is one he'll of a powerful write, I think this is such of a relatable piece, most of us have seen this type of relationship at one point or another, some of us more than once, very raw and honest write from you thanks for sharing

      Ben, thank you so much. The only plus this relationship I had with him is my two daughters. They were always and still are my saving grace in dealing with that time in my life. Thankfully I am now married to a wonderful man and I'm in such a better place. The planets have aligned...:)
