You have to learn
that people are unforgiving.
They don't care what you've been through,
nor will they stop to ask.
They can be heartless
in their blissful ignorance.
Their lives aren't a fight each day
because they don't feel what you feel.
You realize
that nothing you say matters
and they will have their opinions
whether or not they're correct.
People can be cruel--
we can see that through
the various genocides
that have taken
and are taking place.
No one cares where you came from,
or where you're trying to go.
They see you
and think of now.
It doesn't matter
because people will have preconceived ideas
of who you are,
and they will believe those ideas
instead of looking at the truth dead-on.
Do not take
their lack of sympathy to heart
because it will come back around
when they're in a similar situation
and no one cares about them either.
There are many unkind individuals
roaming around this world,
but you can be better than them;
you can be the one
that brightens a persons day
instead of creating darkness in their hearts.
Don't let them break your love
just because they don't have any left.
