Sweet Scented August Night

by Rhinehalt   Dec 16, 2017

A sweet scent in the air,
The yellow fluff raising in the heat.
The nearby sounds of many off the magic box.
The aged one sitting calmly
Watching the pretty pictures.
The youngest in her own world of baking.

In a silent second,
The hands truthfully did still.
Without notice, with no warning.
Everything dropped.

A sleeping being,
With a supper full tummy,
Taking a nap.
No movement, no voice.
Just a gentle stillness.

In the night of August
The clock of his stopped its motions.
A body to tired, a mind in tears.
A heart that wanted to go Home.

The aged one's cry, a call that came to late,
The panic of the youngest,
All to late.

With no tubes, no wires, no machines forcing life.
On a sweet scented night,
A quiet boy taken to rest with the angels.
In the quiet way he was, he left.

Here, the clock moves on,
Still with two moving on,
Missing the sound of the third ticker.
But an echo of tears and laughter blend
Making the Earth seem so much more sweeter.

Oh my Phantom, this is heart-wrenching!!! You have so brilliantly gave me the picture of what's happening the moment he was taken away and the way you have incorporated the clock, the third ticker, at the end of the poem is just amazing! I have lost a very special person in my life and yes, it is an echo of tears and laughter blending every time my heart remembers she is gone...and I feel too that the earth is so much sweeter. Well done and glad that you are posting new stuff!

Thank you kindly and I' m glad my poem touched you so much. This is about my brother, who passed away on August 11th this year. He was napping on the couch, Mom was watching the tv and I was baking a cake. He passed on in the sweet scented night.

The poem "Tick-Tick" was also about my thoughts on him, but he was still living then. It's just we knew one day he wouldn't be there. So that's where the "third ticker" came into play.
