I Miss You

I know what it is that haunts you
I’ve seen it within your eyes
Trust doesn’t come easy, I know
Take a chance, I may just surprise

I know about your father
The drinking, cursing, screaming
You took his hatred as part of life
But inside your tears were streaming

I know about your mother
She never stood up for her child
Let others take control of your lives
Though tortured, still she smiled

I know about your uncle
How he forced himself inside you
What he called love, I call rape
If only sooner, I knew…

I know about your boyfriend
How his lies tore you apart
You loved him more than anyone else
Yet still he shattered your heart

I know how much pain you’ve seen
The torment that you’ve been through
Scars of yore may never fully heal
But today, life begins anew

Take my hand and come with me
Please, don’t be afraid…
My love, you’ll have for all eternity
I’ll give you, for what you have prayed

I know if I could see her now
Those words are what I’d say
How much we cared, she never knew
Her soul was set astray

I’ve spent many a sleepless night
Wiping tears, I lay and wonder
If I knew then what I know now
Could I have saved her from asunder?

I can’t blame her for taking an out
So many horrors she’d seen
I just wish I could have helped her
Then maybe she’d see eighteen

I wrote this poem in memory of a dear friend who took her life four years ago. I will never forget you Terra. I know I will see you again someday. I love you and I miss you so much.
