Holding you gently in my hand, so small and fluffy
You will be my new best friend
Everywhere I go you will go with me
I shall call you by the name 'Laddie'

Playing together in the park
If you saw a squirrel you were sure to bark
Now growing big and changing colour
Laddie we will never be apart
Disaster struck and you left the gate
I called your name and you ran faster
Chasing next door's cat that you hate
I closed my eyes tightly and screamed your name

The skid of the car answered my question
Running to you I feared the worst
I lay down beside you, motionless
I knew that I had been cursed

The driver helped me move my best friend
I held onto Laddie tightly and cried
The cat had survived and hid in a bush
But my best friend was critical and needed a push
The vet gave me a look, the look that I had feared
I held Laddie tightly and he left me forever
He used all his might to lick me one last time
The vet began to cry and put Laddie out of his misery

Sitting here alone holding his ball
Looking at his pictures, he was only 2
There is only one person to blame...
It's myself for leaving the gate open...

Sorry Laddie, My best friend

Promise me one thing Rosie. Never to blame yourself for leaving the gate open. NEVER..
Sometimes things are beyond our control. And death is one of em. You did everything you could to save him. And Laddie must have had a wonderful time with you.

    I'm sorry that's all I can say

Just promise me never again to blame yourself.

    Lotsaaaaaaaa love
    Kisses and hugs
