Rescue 911

by Michael D Nalley   Sep 8, 2006

We remember the attack on colors that don't run
That called for the rescuers of nine-one-one
A sad day for the red, white, and blue
Innocence suffered needlessly it is true

How could it have happened we are still not sure?
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure
The irony is that the terrible smoke rose toward heaven
As that hellish tragedy happened the day of nine eleven

Seems the world, as we knew it, had come to an end
As the spirits of the victims began to ascend
Although we were helpless as the building was burning
Heroes did what they could, and the world kept turning

Five years will pass while the statue will still stand
Gripping the torch for freedom seekers in her hand
The lady sheds her tears for each that departs
"Forever and always, they'll live in our hearts."
