Stranger

by Gianna Cranston   Apr 8, 2014

The phone rings, a text beeps, I can see the name is you
I'm filled with dread because I know it's something I must do
I never hear from you just to see how my life is going
Instead it's requests for this or that, my hurt feelings are only growing
You're supposed to be my father, my protector and provider
But all you do is disappear, your callous actions make me feel like an outsider
I've run to your aid, I've taken your side, I've even lied and covered up your mistakes
Now I can't get you to keep a promise, you don't see how my heart breaks
You're supposed to be my dad, make me laugh, protect me from danger
But as far as I'm concerned, now you're just another stranger.
