Dead By Sunset

by Baby Rainbow   Oct 10, 2015

A silence so deep
leaves my cold heart sinking in the river,
hoping I will be dead by sunset.

I thought your love would always last,
convinced your promises were impossible to break.

My heart begins to shiver,
sinking in everything that continues to drown me.

And before tomorrow closes its eyes,
I hope you find what remains of this poem,
written in the sand beside my lifeless body,
I left a message just for you:

"I'm sorry that my excess baggage and damaged heart
caused you to walk away. I just want you to know that,

...

Some poems I read just seem to ooze great lines, which sometimes strike me more than the content (my fault - I can't multitask)! But on first read, that's what struck me about this piece. Just a couple of examples:
"and before tomorrow closes its eyes" and "....leaves my cold heart sinking in the river". Two highly effective lines that moved me as I was reading.
All the best Saffie and well done on this piece,
    Ben
