Neglected

by Baby Rainbow   Jan 30, 2016

You said that we would always survive,
that there was no distance which could damage our love,
so how come our love has disappeared
to a distance so out of reach?

Was it really that easy to put aside your feelings?
It seemed so difficult for you
to put yourself in my position
and understand what I tried so hard to explain.

It's never easy to say goodbye,
yet I find myself leaving your side.
I need to let you go so I can be free.
I know I will miss you
because I know we will always be apart,
but you know I'll always love you,
even beyond the love
that we so quickly neglected.

It's funny, Saffie, people always tell me that I seem to turn endless amounts of poems out! Well, I now level that at you - with interest.
The sheer amount of work you produce is incredible and far out ways my own. This is a shame, in many ways, because it means some of your work goes under the radar. But I know about the need to write and that need is the primary reason behind what we do, so I do understand.
Anyway, to the poem! It is always so sad when a relationship gets to the point where you both know it has gone beyond repair; that you have to say goodbye to move on with your life but - and saddest of all - you realise it was a love you could have done so much more with.

Another sad and powerful piece from you, Saffie, as is usual with all you write. Good to read some of your work again.
    All the very best,
    Ben
