A Dream

I can hear the footsteps pacing down a forsaken street
I can hear her breath panting
I can hear her voice, but what is she saying?
Her lips are moving, but I can't make it out
The expression on her face makes me feel sad
The pain in her eyes can bring anyone to tears
She is fighting with every bit of her strength
I can't understand why...
Where is she going?
What is her rush?
Why do I feel so sad when I look at her?
Suddenly her pace slows down
Still breathing heavily I can see the anxiety in her actions
She grabs 'his' arm and smiles slightly... I can't make 'him' out.
He mouths the words "I'm sorry... I Love you..."
And I watch the tears pour out of her eyes as he turns and slowly walks away.
She falls to her knees
A million thoughts take over her mind
She stands up and begins to run again
with more speed
She yells louder... Fights harder...
It confuses me... I can't understand why.
She is so beautiful... skin shines, eyes sparkle...
As she runs upon him she stops in front of him.
She puts her arms around his neck and held on tightly.
I saw her melt as he embraced her
and then the image of the beautiful woman that held such promise now only knows pain
In the blink of an eye he vanished.
She stood drained and tired, but she still found the strength to go on.
I was beginning to understand
She was running the wrong way down this one way street
She ran and ran
And there he stood again the same gorgeous man
but this time she didn't run to him
She stopped and looked on from a distance.
Tears began to pour out of her eyes as she stood still... silent
He walked up to her, and smiled a gorgeous smile... wiped her tears, and in a split second he was gone
She froze in place panting out of control
She collapsed on the ground and began to cry
I felt her pain as I looked on.
I felt a tap on my shoulder...
It was her!
Finding myself at a loss for words at the image before me
As I stood in front of me I smiled for the first time in a long time...
What now? I asked. She said nothing, but embraced me.
The longer she held on the more she slipped away.
"Don't let it happen to you" she said as her arms became stronger, her grip tighter...
She grew taller, skin darker, hair shorter.
Her soft voice began to say "I need you" I heard it fade, and get deeper.
She became him...
My heart dropped into my stomach
He fades... "WAIT!" I yelled
Then I woke up wrapped in his arms
He kissed my forehead and said "I'll never leave you."
