An Ode to Andrew Jackson

by CalGirl   Feb 17, 2008

In 1767 Jackson was born,
And a humble life he did live.
He would become a great president,
And to Americans prosperity he would give.

Jackson gained fame as a common man
And he loved to have fun.
He would duel with many rivals,
And once he was shot by a gun.

Even so, his many faults were overlooked,
By those who respected him like a hero.
And a war hero he did become,
For he eliminated many a foe.

So as a war hero and common man,
His popularity grew.
And soon, nationwide,
Those who didn't know him were few.

In 1828, Jackson's presidency began
Much to the Americans' delight.
For he was a spokesman for the poor,
And he did what the people thought was right.

As Jackson gained many people's approval,
States lowered property ownership terms
To vote in the presidency elections.
Henceforth, the Democratic Party was formed.

And even today, almost 200 years later,
Jackson's Democracy is still run,
By the happy and the common,
Who love to have fun.

Lol... nice; in 1845, at Andrew Jackson's funeral, his pet parrot got taken away for swearing!! Haha, I wonder what he said... "Polly want a f-ing cracker!"?
