A baby is born
New Life and new Love
Fragile and bright, shiny and new
To be loved and treasured, as it should be
And I look on, from afar through the mists
Only she knows what she will become,
A lover, a mother, a leader, a queen.
This new light that comes to brighten the day
Her dreams, her wants, her desires - she I pray will have them all
For her may there never be dark
For her may there not be the fear of life.
And I myself I sit from afar, gazing and not seeing
For a child I have not
Nor will I bear a new shiny thing, which is a joy to the world
I'm a realist with life, I know of things that can't be,
And of wishes and horses.
So I would look and behold greatness to come,
And break my heart, for lying in a mother's arms,
Is some thing I can never be.
The Joy and anguish, the so sweet and bitter
This I will hide, unsure of my fait of others scorn.
