Not just a Mask

by BurriedFaceDown   Feb 29, 2008

I hear a knock at the door
Hurry put on my mask
I think

What mask you think?
Are you going to a party, or maybe masquerade?

No, no, no
This is no ordinary mask,
This particular mask,

Hides my true self,
It shows pride in oneself,
It shows joy and happiness in oneself,

But never,
Shall it shows what I have forever felt

What is it?
You ask, that I have felt for oh so long

Why must I tell you?
This mask would no longer be of use to me if I told you what I endure,

But if I must,
I fear rejection from my real being
I fear the overwhelming humiliation

What?!
You now say,
I know what you are thinking,
Everyone endures these pains of the world

But now I must tell you,
I truly and dearly,
I fear myself

I truly do

Now you might think
How does a person go on in society, life, or the world!
If you have such a negative output, on yourself

Believe me I am astonished that I make it,
I must put on that dreaded mask,
And
Just simply be something that I am completely not,
This is truly how I survive in this world of hell

    Sad poem, Question?

Is the mask real or a term used to hide yourself? I must say I do that alot, I not only walk down the street with a smile, while my brain is asking me. What is that person thinking when they look at me?

    Thanks for your comments. 5/5

Masks are a common household object. they need warning labels tho: may lose one's true self behind mask
