The two.

by Em   Mar 3, 2008

In a dream, far away everything seems ok.
In a city not too far, there is fighting without a cause.
In my mind, there is chaos confusion between right and wrong, the bad, the good, the great thing to do, and very soon I will have to choose.
I can live in my dreams,
Or live in reality,
Choosing between two that needs both to survive,
Why am I left to choose one while the other dies?
I carefully think it through,
The last thing left to do,
One on one, the truth,
I know what I will do,
But right now I refuse to choose,
For I need both,
Don't you?

This poem had such potential, and one line completely ruined its greatness:

In a dream, far away everything seems ok.

The rhyme felt forced and cliche, were it just 'in a dream' it would have sounded nicer, but that line was a terrible way to start off the poem and made the reader want to turn away from it.
