Your Shadow

by Aurora   Mar 10, 2008

It was late in September
when the wind blew in.
I could still see your shadow,
but I thought I'd never see you again.

You stood there and said
what you had to say.
I didn't listen to you,
and you said you'd go away.

I didn't believe you,
because you said it so many times before.
It's still a shock to me
when I remember you walking out the door.

Your eyes were swelling with tears,
but I didn't look you in the eye.
I wanted to comfort you,
but I never saw a grown man cry.

You were worried about me
and where I had been.
You didn't know where I was,
but you were certain it was with him.

I couldn't believe you thought this.
I told you it wasn't true.
I told you you were imaginative,
but there was no convincing you.

I told you where I was,
but you didn't believe me.
I said, "You must be the one cheating
with a cloud of infidelity so thick you can't see."

You told me I was crazy
for thinking such things.
Then you left our house
and spread your wings.

And now it's late July,
and there is no wind blowing in.
I can't see your shadow anymore,
bit I wish I could see you again.
