The Art of Recovery

by Vincent Thornsberry   Mar 11, 2008

To recover from abuse,
all those years of misuse.

Think deeply into your past.
It won't come all that fast.
Think of everything you've done,
and every battle that you've won.

Now think of everything that you've lost.
Then begin to feel the frost...
the pain and anguish,
for it will begin to distinguish,
truth from deceit,
success from defeat.

Don't let it make you bitter,
for it's only a bit of litter,
on the side of the road of life,
which has given you much strife.

First you need to realize,
everything isn't as seen with your eyes.
For quite a while life was hard,
and it dealt you a nasty card.

Not everything is your fault.
Especially the abuse and the assault.

It wasn't in your power to stop,
everything that managed to drop
down upon you sorrowful head,
anyone weaker would've been dead.
Yet you survived, and so have I.
Now you have a powerful ally.

You can see more than one side,
of everything you've had to hide.
We can stop to think and reveal,
all that's happened in our ordeal.

Think about it and let it go,
so your mind can again grow,
with the love of life you once had.
You can do it and not be sad.
It will be hard at first,
But that is truly the worst.

Now I don't want you to fret,
just learn to forgive and never forget.
Thus is the key,
To your recovery.
