Smiles of the eyes

by shadowknight   Mar 19, 2008

Tears fall from the shadow of a girl,
the green skin she hides from the world,
under a cloak of demeaning secrets,
the mask of smiles protecting her soul,
the heart that never laughs,
the eyes that try to smile,
the hidden world kept secret,
the pain of red scars.

She follows through the jungle,
the life she always knew,
the judgement of her elders,
that she could never wrongly prove,
she sits alone in her room,
rocking herself to sleep,
the tears that sting her heart,
rolling into her soul.

The words she can never speak,
locked inside her mind,
the safe without a key,
the longing for surrender,
the years of sensitivity,
she'd throw the world away,
for a day without tears,
she yearns to know true life,
before she learns of death.

The smiles that seem to cry,
the words that never sing,
a broken wish,
looks to the world,
for her final call,
the stars that seem to laugh in pity,
the sun that burns the mind,
the containment of within,
the eyes that never smile,
the life the world lost.

The puzzlement of secrets,
riddles left untold,
the glow of blood,
reaping on the tiles,
the death of life,
short and sweet,
lost in bitterness,
the heart of gold,
turned to rock.

fly away young stone,
into the earths new crust,
sleep for eternity,
never long to live and die,
just find the passion,
in the smiles of eyes.

The quick pace and short lines help to soften the severity. The repetitive use of the word "the" distracts the readers eye by creating a flashing sign on the left hand side that says "ooh, look here". Try to rephrase some of the lines that begin with "the" to change the mood that gives.
