Goodbye Before Hello

by Lorreign   Mar 24, 2008

I've thought about this long
And I think I've come to the best resolution
It won't be easy for me to say
But it has to come to this conclusion
It doesn't matter what either of us wants
In my heart of hearts, that I know
This just isn't a way to begin
I'm afraid we'll reap what we sow
You've got to say goodbye to her
Before you even think about saying hello to me
And even then you need time alone to think
Time for your vision to clear so you might can see
Because what if what you feel isn't real
Perhaps on their own, those feelings may fade
Take this chance and give it time
You could save us both unneeded pain
This isn't rejection, don't think that at all
I just worry that I'm some fantasy escape
I need to know that I'm not before I give too much
I just don't want us to turn into a big mistake
And in that time you spend alone
Whether it takes weeks, months, or years
You may realize somethings false you thought were true
You may see some truth in all my fears
But if you see no falsehoods
And you still feel as strongly then as you do today
We've only to find each other again
To clasp our hands once more to stay
