I try to step back
Every once in awhile

While also taking in the bad

And listen to what their soul is singing

I don't think that I have ever found a person
I didn't learn from

That's when I met you
Your heart was broken
Your life was falling apart
Tears stained your face
And your soul screamed for help
Your body was broken
Your mind was confused
Your eyes were empty
And I could see you were lost

And of all the people I've ever seen
You were the most abused
On the inside and out
I'd never seen a soul take so much hurting

That's why it surprised me
When you smiled at me...
