The Poisoned Mind

by Sanath Kumar   Apr 5, 2008

In his pursuit of peace, man created major religions seven
Each had varied colours like a kaleidoscopic prism;
He believed they were all alternative paths to Heaven.
Why then did he create a path to Hell called Terrorism?

This queer breed, the Terrorist, has no thinking of his own.
Perhaps, too much of his selfish love led him to hatred
The poisoned seed planted in his brain has ever since grown
Distorting his once clear vision from green to infra-red.

Why does he have such unquenchable thirst for blood?
To spread fear amongst the people, he's hell-bent.
It seems his heart is made up of impenetrable lead.
May be, it provides the frustration in his life a vent.

His was an ingenious act but alas, all in vain
What did he achieve but death and destruction?
It was a fearsome result of ferocious disdain
Not on his own, he acted on someone's instruction.

What an incorrigible path he has chosen to tread!
Perhaps, it gave him a false sense of achievement
With so many peaceful ways to earn his daily bread,
Why did he "gift" so many families with bereavement?

His in-built anger must have blinded his logical thinking;
What prevented his heart from being normal and kind?
Perhaps, he's not to be blamed, only his upbringing;
It was not he himself; it was only his poisoned mind.

Early in life, he was perhaps a suffering child;
A victim of circumstances, he was not to blame
His situation must have generated such ideas wild
Bitter experiences must have fanned this flame.

He is a standing example of courage misled,
His effort was similar to that of a warrior slain!
An unfortunate result of corrupted ideas fed,
What a wasted effort, what a wasted brain!

Had he used his courage for some creative purpose
And had put to good use his dogged determination,
He would certainly have set a fine example for others.
He would have been a hero, not a villain sans nation.

What else can I say about this new breed
That has grown like an uncontrollable weed?
Stern efforts to wipe out this entire creed
Seem the only way to prevent such misdeed.

But wait! There's one very important word of caution!
An eye for an eye would only make the whole world blind.
Rather than killing the doer, try to eliminate the reason
Paving the way for the safest society we could ever find.

Although such a remedy is easier said than done,
In the long term interest of our planet, it's the only solution.
