Untitled

I looked at him that morning red
Orange sun shown on my face
With ice for eyes and night for hair
He's no memory replaced

I took in the picture's light
The sights and every sound
The toxic air he breathed with me
Was enough to take me down

I closed my eyes and swayed a bit
Though he wasn't moved at all
He held me at my shoulders, still
To keep me up from fall

But soon his fingers laced with mine
And he whispered in my ear
And I'll admit that I did sigh
When he said, "I will be here"

I opened my eyes and glanced at hands
So different, they were, from mine
And as a tear rolled off my cheek
I knew that I'd crossed the line

He asked me why I cried right then
His voice strong as any leader
And in his arms, I cried again
"Because he'll call me cheater"
