Last prayer

by Miss Lonely Teacher   Apr 13, 2008

Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the lord my soul to keep
While angels watch me through the night
And demons hide from morning light
I wait all day
I sit and pray
Will I ever make it through?
Will I ever see you?
Will I ever keep up hope?
Will I fall down that slope?
Between life and death
I breathe my last breath
I reach for the knife
Can I take my own life?
Two minutes have passed
I sat and asked
As the blood flows down
And I begin to drown
Why me?
Why can't I see?
I want to live
But have already died

just read through the comments, sorry for the last commenter, not sure if i ever answered you.
the begining isn't hope exactly, just asking guidence when passing, that's why it seems to jump

    This was great:
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the lord my soul to keep
While angels watch me through the night
And demons hide from morning light
    ^^^
It made me smile - nice flow

Though I was confused with one thing. Your first stanza shows hope because of the "protection" and that the person is praying but then the subject kind of jumps to the character dying ... (I'm honestly just confused and would love a explanation from you? For a reader :D)

    Excellent poem and nice flow.
deep emotions mixed with pain but make sure of one thing. if you died then it's over but if you lived and kept looking you will find happines one day FOR SURE...
