Don't Cry, Sweet Buttercup

by I Seem to be the Heartless   Apr 28, 2008

Watching you playing outside,
I wonder what goes through your mind;
What are you thinking?
What are the things you seek to find?

I wonder if you think about
How life could have been;
Wonder if your dad would be here,
Had your little face, he had seen.

I wonder if your heart hurts
When you're all alone.
Wonder if when you grow up,
Your heart will also turn to stone.

I'll do what I can
To protect you from the pain.
I will make sure
You never go through the same

As I have been through -
It's all just too bad.
I will do my best
To never make you sad.

I will always love you,
My sweet baby girl.
You are the only thing
That will keep me in this world.

Please, sweet Buttercup,
Don't you cry.
I hate to see those tears
Falling from your eyes.

I don't know what to tell you -
I don't know where he's gone.
But I now realise
Your dad was using me all along.

He'd never have the heart to love you,
As he never loved me.
So, I guess me and you
Is all it'll ever be.

But know that I love you
And I'd never give you up
Because I love you too much,
My sweet Buttercup.
