We Were Too Blind To See

The students listen open mouthed,
as they hear what is announced.
A fellow students has taken her life,
she was found clutching a blood stained knife.

She was only young, about 15,
but no one appears to remember her it seems.
She walked these corridors day after day,
not one word did she mutter or say.

She was an angel lost in the world,
with no one to have her, no one to hold.
Someone to see her and lend a hand
Maybe then alone she would not have to stand.

She sat in class in amongst their chatter,
Feeling more and more like she didn't matter.
She was always used to being ignored,
She walked by, head down with her eyes lowered.

No one knew her secret torment,
or what she did when she needed to vent.
How she hacked and sliced at her arm,
she found relief in pain from self harm.

She went home that day to her only friend,
she couldn't go on, she could no longer pretend.
She took that knife across her wrist,
And clenched her tiny hand into a fist.

She watched the blood drip to the floor,
she didn't care or want to be alive anymore.
She screamed to God to accept her now,
looked to the world and gave a final bow.

Next day the town reads the paper open mouthed,
Another teenage suicide has been announced.
A young girl has taken her life
She was found clutching her only friend, a blood stained knife.
