IF I AM TO SURVIVE

by Jim McMillen the man within   May 3, 2008

To be born at your own funeral,
I know this sounds so strange !
But after contemplation, You see,
It just insinuates , Change !

For Change is but the death of the old,
And the birth of the new!
Though Changes are always necessary,
they often are too few!

Too little , too late , or not at all,
On time they seldom arrive!
But Change, I see , is what I must,
If I am to survive !

A sense of new direction,
Through the absence of the past.
To look within , when you once looked without ,
And your outlook becomes so vast !

New hopes and new horizons,
New hi-lites of each new Change!
to be born at your own funeral ,
No longer sounds so strange

I hope you will attend

The two verses that touched me the most:

Too little , too late , or not at all,
    On time they seldom arrive!
But Change, I see , is what I must,
If I am to survive !

For Change is but the death of the old,
And the birth of the new!
    Though Changes are always necessary,
    they often are too few!

If we are to grow, we must constantly change and strive to be a better person each and every day with Gods help.

To be born at your own funeral is surely an odd subject to ponder.
this poem made me think, maybe death isnt that bad.
im still very afraid of it, but the concept of changing; being born as someone new; is amazing.
im not sure if thats what you were thinking when you wrote the poem... but thats what it made me think.
i think its always good to have open poems like this that can offer a ton of opinions and ideas.

For Change is but the death of the old,
And the birth of the new!
    Though Changes are always necessary,
    they often are too few!
