Strumming the Sky

by Renee   May 5, 2008

They told me i could be anything i wanted
but obviously
they lied

But I took in all in stride
because in my mind
I already was.

because there was
nothing left except
a piece of paper

and an ugly inky stain
where I emptied
my hearts melody

that once sung
with the joy of two
birds flying in the sunset

Now well after dusk and the flood of night
I have become little more than
a hopeful watcher of the sky

but soon enough the rain will fall
puddles will form around me
light will come from behind the trees

Like memories of your sweet voice
caught on a breeze
to taunt me.

they told me i could be anything
i ever wanted
but obviously i already am

They told me I could be anything
I ever wanted
I decided to be better than them.
