You Say

by Moira   May 14, 2008

You say that I am the future
that success lies in my hands
you say that gender has no bearing
like the number of grains of sand
you say that I am limitless
never to be contained
you say that my life is a canvass
empty until painted in

Yet structures and guidelines appear
dictators and royals rein high
violators enclose my space
blocking my view of the sky

Slowly I start to decay
imagination lies flat on the ground
I’m trapped in a world of your choosing
society has me bound
