A Circle of Trees

by lisabrighteyes   May 31, 2008

She lay in a circle, a circle of trees.
Deep, within a wood.
Far, from dwelling or road.

The tops of the trees towering over
Sunshine repressed by leaf and branch.
Night and day she lay in darkness.
Night and day she lay in placidity.

The cool of the forest makes her hesitant to leave.
The darkness entices her troubled soul.
Day and night she renders her self.
Day and night she sinks lower and lower.

She lay in a circle, a circle of trees.
Deep, deep within a wood.
Far, far from dwelling or road.

Unaware of life outside her circle.
She slumbers in the shadows.
Unaware she has lost control
Of her life, now strangely dim.

She lay in a dream within a dream
Kept locked and barred by death itself
A picture of her lover winds through her mind
Suddenly she tries to open her eyes.

How had she forgotten her heart?
And why can't she get up?
Trying to stand, to clear her head,
She falls to the ground again and again.

She reaches deep within her soul
And grasps the love that is still within
She takes a hold and begins to run
Not looking back.

She leaves a circle, a circle of trees.
Deep within a wood.
Searching out a dwelling or road.
