Listen

Why am I always right?
But you never listen to me
I am always wise
But you won’t listen to me

I am your best friend
Have been for years
So why can’t you take my advice
For once…

I have always been good to you
Can’t you be good to me too?
It’s all I ask of you
As I drift into the ocean

The waves come crashing down
Just listen to them roar
Maybe you’ll listen to what they say
Instead of going and getting your heart broken

Feel the rain drops on you skin
The decisions they make are true
I can only hope you’ll be like them
For otherwise you’ll find your heart broken

See the river flow with your own eyes
It flows easily with rhythm following a path
I can only hope you’ll be like it
Moving through life with ease

Taste the sweetly perfumed air
Mixing with the ocean breeze
I can only hope you’ll be like it
Mingling with the kinder things in life

Hear the pure water
Lightly lapping against the stones
I can only hope you’ll be like it
Making only the lightest stir

Smell the bitter chill in the atmosphere
It cuts the nose and blazes the lungs
I can only hope you’ll be like it
Strong enough to experience

Sense the drift of the current
Acting as the trail to a treasure
I can only hope you’ll follow its course
For it hides great values

I can only hope you’ll be like them
For they are experienced with life it’s self
Practicing their arts for existence
They know how to keep a whole heart without rust
