Night Time Lullaby

by Jes Miller   Jun 11, 2008

She is just like most 6 year old girls,
She is goes to school,
Plays with her friends,
Does well in school,
And all day long,
She wears a smile,
A smile that is never shown at home,

For when she is at home,
She is all alone,
Just her and her toys,
But no one for her to play with,
Instead,
She stares blankly out the window,
Watching other children smiling,
And watching families play happily under the warm sun,
Wishing that things could be like that for her,
But in stead,
She waits for darkness to fall,
And for her mom to carry her to bed,
Before her night time lullaby begins.

Her wishing finally paid off,
And darkness began to fall,
So just like every other night,
Her mom carried her to her bed,
and gently tucked her in,
But before leaving her room,
She told her sweet child she loved her,
For she always would,
No matter what,
Then she left the room,
Closing the door shut behind her,

As soon as her bedroom door shut,
The front door slammed open and shut,
And so her night time lullaby began,
It started with yelling,
Which used to make her toss and turn,
But by now,
It was just another sound in the night,
Then the yelling became louder,
And she started to worry,
For other nights,
Her night time lullaby ,
was just listening to her parents yell in the other room,
But this night was different,

For she knew better then to run out during her night time lullaby,
So she simply held onto her sheets,
And tightly grasped them into her little fists,
Trying to fight the urge she felt,
And so her night time lullaby continued,
For it continued until the last thing she heard,
With her mom letting out a scream and the door slamming shut,
Knocking off some picture frames that once hung on the wall,

She waiting a little,
But the tears streaming down her face,
And the nervousness she felt in her stomach,
Lead her to run out to her mom,
Who was holding her right side of her face,
Her mom began to cry even harder,
But not from the pain she felt from where her husband hit her,
But because she knew her daughter heard the whole thing,
And know has to live each day,
Remembering what happened that night,
The night during her final night time lullaby
