Him

by SMILEoften   Jun 14, 2008

Yet again she hides away,
like a tree branch
covered in white snow
waiting for warm summer sun
to melt it away.

He walks down past her,
and she gets butterflies
just feeling the air
that passes between them.
God forbid if she ever met his eyes
she'd be locked there for always
traveling through his heart
exploring every inch.

She is scared to find out
that love is what she feels;
for love is forbidden
in the life she has chosen.
There is another between
her and her true soul mate
and she just can't get the strength
to break away from him.

Now as the summer rolls around
and the sun slowly causes
her walls to run down to water,
she feels ready
to take The Risk.
Marches down the hallway,
heart on her sleeve
and head held up high,
and then she sees him.

No.
no.
no, no, no.
The walls become frozen around her
all over again.
This time her guard is inches thick,
and not ready to come down.
It won't melt away.

For now,
she'll have to live on like this.
Believing this is what she deserves --
to live a life
that she doesn't want.

She gathers herself
and walks to the ladies room.
She looks in the mirror,
and what does she see?
She discovers the girl who looks back
is the one and only, me.

* This poem isn't a true story for me, but it's about a girl who has a boyfriend but has a crush on another guy at school. It's not rhyming and I thought it may improve my word selection a bit. Tell me what you think :)
