A Mother's Arms

by Kathy Worden   Jun 17, 2008

With a wail and a cheer, and a tear, I was placed into my mother's arms;

Learning to walk on wobbly, diaper-bowed legs, I tentatively left my mother's arms.

Once running and wild, climbing and dashing; joyfully jumping into my mother's arms.

That school bus came and I ran, then stopped, and ran back, for a nervous hug, then back out again, from my mother's arms.

OH the throws of young love floated me, breathlessly, into my mother's arms;

I, knowing everything, and her disappointment in my choice of friends, defensively left my mother's arms.

I, now knowing better, knowing hurt and self loathing, with humility, crept back into my mother's arms.

Finally learning self love, and finding true happiness, as she gave me away, respectfully I left my mother's arms.

Understanding a mother's love, and with great pride, I placed my child into my mother's arms.

Consumed with life, in this-my world, too busy, I took for granted my mother's arms.

Too sick to hold me, I held her, and became my mother's arms.

And as she slept her deepest sleep, sadly, for the last time, I left my mother's arms;

And rocked myself, in my lonely arms...
