Sharing is Caring

I’m old enough to know the phrase “sharing is caring”
But I’m also old enough to know that I don’t care
I hardly ever get to see my father, and when I get to others are always there
I have nine siblings, full half and step. Two get to see you every day one almost just as much
One’s always there in spirit. Two don’t even care, and one lives his own life
That just leaves three of the 10 of us left the 3 that are actually your kids
We never get to see our father. And when we do we have to share
You say it’s not fair to leave them out and I say it isn’t fair to let them in
It’s not that I want to be a snob. I just want my time with my father
I don’t mind sharing sometimes. But I want time alone too
It kills me to hear her call you daddy because you’re not her dad.
Knowing that you’re going to be there for their first dates and you weren’t for mine
The thought that you get to see them grow up right in front of you and you don’t see us grow up
The mere fact that I know my friends dads better than my own
The way that when I’m there I feel like I’m in a strangers home.
I’ll gladly share you with your son’s every time I’m there
But her daughters are not your own and we don’t want to share.
I hear my youngest brother tell me “Brandon’s dad called today”
Brandon’s dad not just dad, He doesn’t even know you and he never may
When I turn eighteen I won’t be there
Those boys will still be a big part of my life but you; I don’t think I’ll care
