Orb Of Hope (Free Verse)

by Ashleigh Skye   Jun 30, 2008

Once I had hope for you,
once I was proud of you,
and once I was happy to say your name.

Once you shone like an orb of hope,
able to radiate through any darkness,
and any pain the world could throw.

You had an innocence about you,
and after a hard day your eyes,
always made it feel like things were fine.

But now my orb of hope has vanished,
evaporated into the night's air,
and nothing will make it return.

You're not the same person I once knew,
you have been replaced by something,
that I can't even describe.

A person I don't have hope for,
a person I'm not proud of and,
a person who's name brings no joy.

But still your face makes me long for,
the memories and happy times,
which are long since extinct.

The orb of hope is forever lost,
impossible to regain,
leaving me instead with a bucket of tears.

And this bucket of tears is bottomless,
for you always manage to make me add more,
just when I think it's not possible.

And whenever I put it down,
you give me a reason to pick it back up,
oh, how I miss my orb.
