By your side.

by Rachel   Jul 1, 2008

She Sat by his Side.
At the edge of his Bed.
Held his Hand in Hers.
She Kissed His Forehead.

She looked at his face.
He looked so frail.
One More day maybe Two
Until His ship sets sail.

Doctors ask her to leave.
They say they will try.
To do every thing they can.
To keep Him Alive.

Monitors are beeping.
As she walks away.
She takes one last glance.
At his tired Face.

Not a word between them.
But some how she knew.
What she was thinking.
He was thinking too.

Their silent Goodbye.
Only God could have heard.
She watches through the window.
As the doctors do their work.

Remembering the good times.
Cherishing the kisses.
Hoping he will make it through.
With her fingers crossed she wishes.

Wait, what are they doing?
Why are they packing away?
The doctors walking toward her.
She knows what he will say.

Mam, I'm sorry we all tried our best.
But his heart was weak.
And now he is at rest.
I know you must be devastated but there is something you should know.
Your husband said some thing..Just before his time to go.

He asked me tell you..
That he loves you more than ever.
And thanks For staying by his side.
As he will do for you.
Forever.
