A Whole New World

by InTheseHearts   Jul 7, 2008

They say these stars are the same ones there, but they look different tonight
Something about them they seem so shiny and bright

Ones back home seem to be so dingy and dim
Not one wish I would make ever came true on them

Wishing on stars is a silly little game we played back then
Like counting petals on daisies, and blowing wishes in the wind

I look back at pictures when that house felt like a home
Now it's just a prison with no room left to roam

There were no bars on the windows or doors but they still wouldn't let me out
They say it's safer there, but their motives are what I doubt

Its when I saw these invisible chains that I knew I had to go
I gathered all the strength inside and ventured my leave with no one to tell me no

Now the day's light breeze is warm instead of cold
And I watched the story we're writing slowly start to unfold

In your arms I feel that nothing from my past can get me now
Letting go of my past without your help I just wouldn't know how

So I'm starting over on my own fresh and new
Away from the world that kept me from you

    "but hey look different tonight"

    should be "they"

and the format makes the poem very broken and slightly hard to read, try saparating the sentences more clearly somehow

the feeling behind the poem is very beautiful, 4/5

Wow. The words that you described in this poem are amazing and touching. I'm so happy that I'm the first one to comment on it! :) I would go back and work on the punctuation a bit and I would shorten a few lines in it, but that's just me. lol Overall, I thought that it was a really good read.
