Grim Reaper

by Joshua Lee   Jul 11, 2008

When death comes knocking on your door

what do you say to him?

If he asks if he can take a life

do you say "alright" and get your knife?

do you give in to his request

thinking that this was for the best?

of course you don't

you never give in

you'd rather beat his a** than

to give yours to him

you'd rather kick him out

then to spend the night

uncomfortably sitting

with that ghastly fright

so that's exactly what you do

and you neighbors follow you

keeping away from the houses

this evil power

that so rudely knocks

during such untimely hours

and alas it comes to this

the grim reaper is rejected

his quest not accepted

by the people of all towns in the world

he asks me "why? do they not wish to die?

and why is it so hard for me to get by?"

I say "not true, they just don't like you.

perhaps not being so scary would do."

with a tear falling down his skull socket eye

he falls to the ground and heaves out a sigh

he takes out a paper

a pen of black ink

and starts to write down

something important i think

and just a minute later

he photocopies the paper

and posts them on every door in the town

the postings say "I'm sorry for the trouble

that I've put all you through. So I'll leave town

a while until I know what to do

But until that time please stay content

and wait for me to come back again

I will arrive much better this time

as a man I was truly meant to be

as a wiser and kinder and greater man

a giver, a sharer, a teacher

but until then I say my goodbyes

goodbye

from the old grim reaper"
