The Night That Changed Everything

by Olivia   Jul 18, 2008

Shaking,
I stared at your empty eyes
Shivering,
I drew slow deep breaths for you

I curled my fingers around yours,
Begging for a sign of life.
I touched my face on what seemed your corpse,
And tears painted your skin.

You murmured there in the corner,
Soft and slow words.
You separated yourself,
You became a foreigner.

Fear edged its way to my throat,
My stomach tied to knots.
I hugged the porcelain tight,
And I was sick.

Heaving and gasping,
I worried for you.
I ran from the bathroom,
I ran to you.

You stood there in the kitchen,
Staring at me with that twisted smile.
I reached out,
Yet you remained hostile.

You grabbed my shoulders,
Shook me hard.
"Leave me. Please. Leave me,"
You warned.

My heart sank,
Dropped,
Cracked,
Shattered.

I saw it clearly then,
You were ill.
I saw it before my eyes,
With a shocking chill.

Farewell, love.
