Ivory Keys

by Ashley Ross   Jul 18, 2008

An eternity since I arrived, they wiped away
the dust I have long kept. I can tell that
I am needed. For a long while I have been
out of tune, and out of touch, but this day is a day,
a blessed day of freedom. I am cleansed of my impurities.
My wood is polished new, and finally my ivory keys
glimmer like stars under the stagelights. I am ready to perform.

Who is it that makes the room echo with their footsteps?
Is it a friend? Or is it a lover that caresses me so fondly?
Once more I am needed. By myself I can accomplish nothing,
but with this being here beside me I please and audience's ears.
I long to be used, and I long to make music, but
those who are used are bound to be abused.
The loneliness aches so much, because I shall never truly die.

Raise the curtain once more, and in that moment
I die and am reborn.
