Perils of War

Perils of War by: R. Meuser 71808

As if in an old picture show,
her life with her man
flashes frame by frame, reel to reel
in her grieving heart.
As a draft makes a flame flicker
her love for her guy
will never flicker or die
into the forgotten abyss of time.

Even though she is proud
he gave his all for his country
and what he believed
she selfishly wishes he had not.
They had planed a family
Now she will never
to see him smile
as she would have told him
the good news of fatherhood.

The dreams of what might have been
were cut short by the perils of war.
For now, she will savor their love.
There will be a day
when she will be ready to let go,
as the tears of time
heal her wounded heart.

Great work...its nice to see this perspective of the women at home. I also the the comparison to an old picture show and how you used words to paint the picture. Lovely poem.
    Take care,
