Dirt off my knees.

by slighte   Aug 2, 2008

When I'm fourteen,
I will be one year closer to the end.
when I'm fifteen,
I will learn how to drive.
when I'm sixteen,
I will be out of here.
when I'm seventeen,
I will start my life without you.
when I'm eighteen,
you might start to wonder where i am.
when I'm nineteen,
I won't regret leaving.
when I'm twenty,
I will start to think of what might have been.
when I'm twenty-one,
you will celebrate my birthday without me.
when I'm twenty-two,
you might have cleared out my stuff.
when I'm twenty-three,
I will laugh at the good memories.
when I'm twenty-four,
you probably will have forgotten those memories.

when I'm twenty-five,
I will try to wash the dirt off my knees.
but forever it will stay.

This poem's format is based on the idea "when I'm twenty-five, I'll wash the dirt off my knees", from the author Brigid Lowry. She got this line from a piece called 'Final Fantasy' by Sheila Heti.
