Friend

'Friend' is a funny word
Its last three letters spell 'end'
Could this be the reason
Why so many are on the mend?
Is this why we're all defensive
And so many are untrue?
Why so many are impatient
And disrespectful too?
Could it be that deep inside
We know good things come and go?
So we try to keep our distance
So that no one has to know?
Could this be why we all fight
And yell 'til our voice gives out?
Or is it our insecurities
That make us scream and shout?
Could it be that we're born to hate
And that we must be taught to love?
Maybe that's why we're forced to share
And to fight with hugs instead of shoves
But all these lessons mean nothing
If you go out in the world today
If you ask others why they fight
They will have nothing to say
So tell me what is a 'friend'
If not someone to cause you strife
So stressful it can be at times
It'll make you want to end your life
