The Hedgehog

by Wolf Haines   Aug 8, 2008

I was sat in my cottage when
The sun went down and then
It began to snow.

I went and stood outside in the night,
Then a hedgehog came into sight.
My eyes went all aglow.

'Hello there my prickly friend,
Maybe a lift I can lend
To wherever it is you go

For with legs like mine
We would make good time,
You are moving awfully slow.'

He replied 'Although a lift would be sublime,
I must decline,
My answer is simply no.

I cannot talk
I am on a romantic walk
And have my wife in tow.

If I stay too long
She will put on a dance and song
And make one hell of a show

So I tip my hat
And that is that,
I thank you for the offer though'

I could see no harm
In the hedgehogs charm
So-

I said 'Goodnight to you sir,
And a goodnight to her'
And left him to his woe.
