If Only I Had The Talent

by Wolf Haines   Aug 8, 2008

If Only I had enough time I would count every blade of grass
On the steppes of central Asia, if you wished it to be done.

If only I had enough time I would sieve every grain of sand
In the Sahara desert, if you desired it to be accomplished.

If only I could then Mount Everest would be but a mole hill to me,
If you wanted it to be climbed.

If only I could then the deepest ridges of the pacific would be but a puddle,
If you wanted them explored.

If only I had enough time I would capture every snow flake of the Antarctic,
And still not see one with beauty even close to yours.

If only I had enough time I would scale every tree in the Amazon rainforest,
And from the top of each one I would declare my devotion for you at the top of my voice. If that is what you wanted.

If only I could then I would rope in the moon with a giant lasso,
So we could forever stroll hand in hand under its light.

If only I could then I would realign the stars to form a love note,
And we could lie in each others arms while you read it.

If only I could I would persuade the sun to blink in your honour,
And then to grace our future with sunlight.

If only I could I would write sonnets worthy enough of your eyes
And make music worthy enough of your ears.

If only I had the talent with words then I could describe your beauty with enough justice as to be true to the truth.

O if only I could then I would do all this just for you.
