Demons and Angels

by Minkus   Aug 30, 2008

Behind a person's eyes
rests a demon or an angel
and one can see it by peering
into the inky depths.

One may be surprised
at what resides there, lurking
in the vacuum that contains the soul:
Indications of the after-death.

A burning malevolence, hate for God
or rippling passion, love for Christ;
A despise for the good, the pure, the true,
or a cling to hope, trust, and belief.

You may see a creature shod
with hooves or baby feet,
Adorned by frightful, cruel horns,
or a wreath of golden leaves.

So look into my eyes
And I'll stare into yours
And then we may have
two angels or two demons

And I know I'll be surprised
At what I find you are
Because then I'll know
What I am... angel,
or demon?
